Meals and snacks are served at regularly times. Meals and snacks are at least two hours apart, but not more than three hours apart. Lil' Cubs does serve breakfast from 6:30am - 8:00am daily. Two food groups will be represented at each morning and afternoon snack time as outlined in the USDA guidelines. At least 3 food groups will be represented at breakfast and lunch one of which includes milk. A written calendar will be posted on parent information board and will also be located on the Lil' Cubs Website.
At least once a day, teaching staff will provide the opportunity for tooth brushing. Parents are required to provide a toothbrush and toothpaste. The use of toothpaste is not required for toddlers.
Children with special health care needs, food allergies or special nutrition needs will need a written prepared plan from their health care provider. With permission from family, this information will be posted at Lil' Cubs so that all staff is made aware of the allergies.
Staff will keep a daily record documenting the type and quantity of food a child consumes when any child with special food needs is enrolled in the center. This information will be provided to the parents.
High risk food such as hot dogs, grapes, nuts, popcorn, pretzels, raw carrots or large pieces of meat will not be served to children younger than 4 years of age. Lil' Cubs does not use food or beverages as rewards for academic performance or good behavior and does not withhold food or beverages as a punishment. Teaching staff will not threaten to withhold food as a form of punishment.
